Burp Interactive wanted some Flash elements and WordPress.

This project was a total re-design as this client was not happy at all with their current website. They make digital screens for stores and other outlets. They wanted to show off their screens with digital content on their website.

Glimpse into my workflow:

I ended up developing a custom Flash (vars) video player that simply loaded the video. For the screen, I ended up modeling and animating their product. Burp Interactive was kind enough to send me one of their screen products so I could accurately model their product in 3d and finally set it up to animate using a simple bone rig.

The developed the Flash Video player using the MVC Design Pattern. I used this architectural design mainly because everything is loosely coupled. The video player actually has 3 videos: left, right, and middle.

The middle view is the video player’s perspective looking directly at the camera. The other two are the left and right perspectives. This way, I can use one video player and change the modes via Flash Vars verses having three separate video players (yuck!)

I did develop some custom plugins since the site does feature a simple login system for their investors and testimonials. The testimonials are simply posts in WordPress. using php, I grab the posts and animate them using jQuery. It was a fun project to work on!

I developed a custom Flash video player for Unified Pictures. This video player simply eats an xml file and spits out all the features. Including viewing trailers, photos, cast, description of movies, and links to social websites.

I was also assigned to other Flash assets such as:

Noah’s Ark Investors website: increased efficiency on many of Flash assets, including stopping music tracks when other sites are launched.

Added modifications to the Employee Biographies section.

Glimpse into my workflow:

I was limited to Actionscript 2 while developing many of these Flash applications. While using an old language seems like going back in time, it was a very smooth process.

The bad part was trying to get an Actionscript 3 asset to communicate with an Actionscript 2 movie. Of course, there are many ways to do this… but I was limited to one only solution, which I figured out after a few painful experiments in my lab

The home page consists of other elements such as a javascript menu and a Flash menu that was built with as3. These menus had to control the actionscript 2 video player. Fortunately, I was able to communicate back and forth using the External Interface class.

Custom video software using php, mysql, jquery, and flash.

I took this ever evolving project on when I lived out in Colorado. When I started working on this project, it was simply a Flash video player you could copy and paste on your website. It also could track how many times it was clicked, stopped, and rolled over. It was originally developed in Pakistan.

Glimpse into my workflow:

Steve Stone of Options Multimedia and I started making it better. We started using this software on a network of radio station websites. Simply put, it had to be robust so any type of blogger could get it to work. I added in features such as “play this video at a certain time”, time line features: play this list of videos, and looping features: after you’ve played this list, start over.

I had developed the back end to simply use an xml file. From there, the video player would eat the xml file and spit out what it needed to do. However, editing an xml sucks. Why not have a friendly form to hold your hand while you set up your walk-on videos?

Media Fur was born. It allows you to go step by step as you create select and place your video (through drag and drop!) and even gives you the code to post on your own website. The settings are stored in a database instead of an xml file. The back end also has some cool features such as: the entries expire in X number of days, categories, and stat tracking.

While I worked for Sparrow InterActive, we worked on a course for Blackbook Online. I was lead developer with the navigation system, which I had initially developed for America Online. It was the first time we re-used the AOL course system, which proved to be fairly easy when we deployed the course.

Glimpse into my workflow:

Since we re-used the engine for this project, I only had to develop a few specific features the client had in their scope… such as a replay button.

We, as a team learned a lot from re-using the course engine and the course engine ultimately ended up being a component: where we could turn on and off features as needed.

Glimpse into my workflow:

The course engine simply loaded an xml file that contained a list of external swf files. Those Flash movies were created by designers and could easily be loaded in and the progress could be tracked.

The back end needed to work with AOL’s internal screen name service. It simply used ASP to set the name of the employee. Then when the employee took the final test, their screen name and final grade were pushed out to a cvs file, which AOL loaded into their own parser.
